Fine finish carpentry is where craftsmanship shows. Catalino Quality Construction delivers custom built-ins, mantels, paneling, and millwork that transform ordinary rooms into spaces with real architectural presence. We serve Marietta, Roswell, and the greater Atlanta area, and our work is site-built — measured, cut, and finished in your home to fit the wall it lives on.
Built-Ins and Cabinetry
Custom built-ins are our most-requested fine finish service. We build floor-to-ceiling library walls, window-seat reading nooks with hidden storage, mudroom benches with cubbies and hooks, fireplace flanking cabinets, home-office desks, and entertainment centers. Each piece is built with hardwood face frames, quality plywood carcasses, and either paint-grade or stain-grade lumber depending on the finish. Drawer boxes use dovetail or solid hardwood joinery with soft-close hardware.
Mantels, Paneling, and Wainscoting
A new fireplace mantel can completely re-center a living room. We build traditional Colonial mantels, modern floating timber shelves, and full surrounds in stone, tile, or shiplap. Wainscoting (raised panel, flat panel, board-and-batten, beadboard) brings warmth and proportion to dining rooms, entries, stairwells, and powder rooms. Whole-wall paneling and coffered ceilings are the dramatic finish carpentry projects that completely transform a room.
Material Selection
Material choice drives both look and longevity. We use poplar and primed MDF for painted millwork, oak and maple for stained traditional work, walnut and cherry for high-end pieces, and species like reclaimed barnwood for character mantels. Plywood substrates are cabinet-grade (Baltic birch, ApplePly, or comparable) rather than construction-grade. Fasteners are countersunk and filled, joinery is glued and clamped, and finishes are sprayed where possible for a smooth uniform appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does fine finish carpentry differ from trim carpentry?
Trim carpentry is the repeatable detail work — baseboards, casing, crown — applied across a house in long runs. Fine finish carpentry is custom, often one-of-a-kind millwork: site-built bookcases, fireplace mantels and surrounds, raised- and flat-panel wainscoting, coffered ceilings, paneled walls, and built-in benches and banquettes. Both are finish work; fine finish carpentry is the design-led, custom side.
Are built-ins more expensive than store-bought furniture?
Per linear foot, yes — site-built carpentry costs more than flat-pack furniture. But built-ins typically increase home value, fit your space exactly (including odd ceiling heights and angles), use real lumber and quality plywood instead of particleboard, and last as long as the house. Most clients who choose built-ins do so because nothing off the shelf fits the wall they need to fill.
Can you match existing trim profiles?
Yes. We carry common profile knives and can source uncommon profiles from local custom millwork shops when an old house has unusual moldings. For exact matches we cut a sample from a hidden location and have it replicated. The goal is for new work to read as original, not as a recent addition.
Do fine finish carpentry projects need a permit?
Most do not. Interior built-ins, mantels, paneling, and millwork are non-structural and rarely require permits. Where the project touches a fireplace flue or gas line, electrical, or load-bearing wall, permits and inspections apply — see our permitting page.
